FAFSA Completion Initiative

The Obama Administration expanded its FAFSA Completion Initiative on March 14, 2014, giving states the right to share student-specific FAFSA completion information with school districts, TRIO/GEAR UP programs, and non-profit organizations such as college access programs. Following this announcement, the Obama Administration also allowed TRIO/GEAR UP and qualifying nonprofit college access programs to receive student-specific FAFSA completion data.

NCAN surveyed its members to determine which states have taken advantage of FAFSA data sharing. Many states are distributing their FAFSA completion data to school districts. We found a mix of states that are distributing their FAFSA completion data to college access programs, or to district partners, but some states didn’t know or aren’t sharing the data. Below you can see if your state is sharing its student-specific FAFSA completion information with school districts and designated entities. For more information, please contact Carrie Warick.
