AVID Webinar: Proven Strategies to Engage, Retain, and Graduate Your Students

March 22, 2019
4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Join Texas Wesleyan University, Butler Community College, and AVID for Higher Education (AHE) for this free webinar to discover high-engagement, student-centered instructional strategies that give your faculty the power to impact student persistence and success. You’ll hear about teaching and learning practices from campus leaders at Texas Wesleyan and Butler who have partnered with AHE to bring these proven strategies to life for their faculty, staff, and students. We say “proven” because you will also hear directly from Gibson Consulting Group as they share the exciting results of a five-year study on these strategies and how they relate to retention, persistence, and completion.

This webinar will be recorded, and all registrants will receive the presentation and resources shared.

Presenters will share achievements and challenges and engage in discussion on topics including:

  • Key student success findings related to retention, persistence, and completion, including a summary of Gibson’s findings across nine campuses, representing two- and four-year colleges and universities, related to student outcomes (from a three-year cohort study), faculty impact, campus wide improvement, and recommendations.
  • The importance of professional development as well as strategies for getting “buy in” and creating key structural changes that impact student and faculty success.
  • How Texas Wesleyan University and Butler Community College customized their AHE implementation while also creating fidelity to AHE’s instructional strategies and model.

  • Joseph Shields, Senior Research Scientist, Gibson Consulting Group
  • Michael A. Brown, Senior Director, Academic Advising & Student Success, Texas Wesleyan University
  • Joe Brown, Dean of Freshmen, Texas Wesleyan University Phil Speary, Dean of Academic Support and Effectiveness, Butler Community College
