E-Learning for College Access & Success

Online Training for College Access/Success Advisors

To help more individuals gain the knowledge they need to provide students with college access and success advising, NCAN hosts the e-learning platform Fundamentals for College Access & Success Providers. The available content reflects evidence-based practices, is vetted by NCAN, and updated as deemed necessary.

Why incorporate e-learning into your organization’s training process? Modules are:

  • Segmented by topic
  • Delivered in convenient 30- to 120-minute segments
  • Self-paced and asynchronous
  • Available year-round, on demand, to anyone with an Internet connection
  • Designed to incorporate best practices for online learner engagement

Fundamentals for College Access & Success Providers is perfect for new advisors, counselors looking for additional training, and college access program staff wishing to stay up-to-date with the changing landscape of college access and success.

Best of all, the training is cost-effective. All units are free to NCAN members during 2017. Non-members pay just $39 to $119 per unit depending on unit length (30 to 90 minutes). Selected units indicated below are free to all. Join NCAN now to access all units for free.

Certificates & Badges

A certificate of completion is provided after each unit is completed. Participants can download, save and print each certificate for documentation.

NEWLY ADDED: Participants can now earn badges for completing combinations of units and modules. Badges available are Admission Advising, Financial Aid, Post-Traditional Students, and Student Outcomes.  These professional badges can help build your resume and document your training in the college access field.  Please refer to the chart below to help you understand which units must be completed to earn each a badge.  If you have already completed some individual units, you will be able to enroll in the badge course and only have to successfully complete any remaining units for that badge.

A special Access Advisor NCAN Certified badge is available for those demonstrating mastery in access advising. To earn the Access Advisor NCAN Certified badge, participants must complete the following units:

  • Roles & Responsibilities – Unit 1
  • The Hows & Whys of College Entrance – Units 1-3
  • Finding the Right College Fit – Unit 1
  • Financial Aid Fundamentals – Units 1-3
  • FAFSA Filing Process – Units 1-2
  • Serving Specific Populations – Units 2-5

If you wish to register for any unit or set of units for a badge, you must complete the registration form at the bottom of the page.  For questions about earning badges, please send an email to elearning@collegeaccess.org.
