The National College Access Network is pleased to announce that Bob McCann, Chairman of UBS Americas, will receive NCAN’s 2018 Bob Craves Champion of College Access Award on Sept. 26 during the NCAN national conference in Pittsburgh, PA.

A Pittsburgh native, a first-generation college graduate of Bethany College (only 50 miles from Pittsburgh), and a committed philanthropist in both his professional and personal life, Mr. McCann is known for his longtime support of several charitable organizations focused on expanding educational opportunities.

He was the driving force behind the UBS NextGen Leaders initiative, a $10 million, five-year commitment to invest in college access and success for students who are the first in their families to go to college. UBS’s efforts provide underrepresented students nationwide with the tools they need to connect to colleges that are a good fit, earn their bachelor’s degrees, and pursue meaningful, successful careers. At the heart of UBS NextGen Leaders are a range of programs and partnerships with organizations like the My Brother's Keeper initiative, SEO Scholars, The TalentED Project, and NCAN.

"I'm deeply honored to be recognized by an organization whose members share a commitment to unlocking opportunity for students of all backgrounds and abilities," said Mr. McCann. "Any success I've had in my career is the result of the love and support I've had from my family, and the chance I was given to earn a college degree. My educational experiences opened my eyes to all the world has to offer, and my hope is that every young person who wants it has that same opportunity."

Mr. McCann serves on the board of directors of the American Ireland Fund, a leader in integrated education, and is vice chairman of the board of trustees of Bethany College. He is also a dedicated patron of No Greater Sacrifice, an organization that helps educate the children of U.S. fallen and wounded Service members.

"Bob understands the imperative for leading companies to invest in the next generation of diverse talent,” says NCAN Board President Marlene Ibsen. “Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Organizations that provide opportunity will attract the exceptional employees they need to succeed in the ever more competitive global marketplace."

In his current role at UBS, Mr. McCann focuses on deepening and growing relationships with clients across the firm's businesses. Prior to assuming the role of chairman, Mr. McCann served as President Americas and President Wealth Management Americas from 2009 to 2015, during which time he led the business's transformation and return to consistent profitability. Prior to joining UBS, McCann had a 26-year career at Merrill Lynch where he held a variety of executive leadership positions including Vice Chairman and President of Global Wealth Management.

NCAN’s annual Bob Craves Champion of College Access Award honors individuals, organizations, or corporations that have made remarkable, long-term contributions to increasing college access and success for underrepresented students. Mr. Craves was a founding officer of Costco, co-founder of the College Success Foundation, and a longtime advocate for students who have been historically underserved in higher education in Washington State and Washington, D.C.
