Do you know how many questions the SAT and ACT have? NCAN’s e-learning platform includes an Admission Advising badge, which you can earn by completing four quick units covering the hows and whys of the college entrance process and finding the right fit. Now is the perfect time to tackle the four Admission Advising badge units – before spring testing begins!

E-learning content is relevant year-round, however, however, and a new Career Advising Unit coming this March unit will guide advisors through a five-step career development path and provide examples of resources to be shared with students. The five steps are self-discovery; career exploration; preparation; plan into action; and continued success in jobs or internships.

NCAN continues to see organizations embedding e-learning into staff training requirements. Some even offer incentives to their staff to encourage unit completion. Most recently, NCAN member Get2College successfully encouraged every staff member to earn the Access Advisor NCAN Certified badge, a total of 16 units. We hope you’ll consider encouraging your employees to complete specific units or badges. You might even consider setting up an e-learning March Madness competition with a prize for the individual who completes the most units by the end of March.

As individuals complete units and earn badges, they qualify for a contest entry. Once a quarter, NCAN draws one lucky winner from badge-earners to receive a free 2018 NCAN National Conference registration. Congratulations to Laura Zalle from Battle Creek CAN and Jodi Wynblatt of the Iredell County Crosby Scholars Community Partnership for winning this prize after completing a badge! Currently, there are seven badges available.

  • Admission Advising – 4 units
  • Early Awareness – 1 unit
  • Financial Aid – 5 units
  • Target Populations – 4 units
  • Student Outcomes – 4 units
  • Student Success – 1 unit
  • Access Advisor NCAN Certified – 16 units

Through 2018, e-learning continues to be free for NCAN members. If you’re not a member, individual units range from $39 to $119 – or considering joining NCAN to enjoy this popular member benefit and many others! Check out www.collegeaccess.org/ELearning to review and register for the dozens of available units.
